Nana brings to mind a child’s pronunciation for grandmother or a female that is other than mother. I grew up with my grandmother in our house who we called “Nana”. She enjoyed her linens and used them throughout the home as tablecloths, bedsheets, runners for the dressers — anything that needed covering for protection. I was always amazed at the divergence between how much skill and artistry were embedded in these textiles, how much care my Nana put into laying them out, and how unnoticed they went. People passed them by while going about their daily lives without understanding that if they were gone, the texture of their daily life would be so much more plain and dull.
